What is Residency?
Residency at Heights is a 10 month development program for those who desire a life of ministry. It is designed to train, coach and mentor emerging leaders who are passionate about Jesus, to be empowered to lead ministry in the Church and communities both locally and globally.
We want to invest in young leaders who will lead the Church into the future, and impact the culture and our world for Jesus. We want to come along side older leaders who desire to finish strong, utilizing a lifetime of skills and abilities to impact and grow the kingdom of God.
How does it happen?
Residency is a unique combination of classroom learning, hands-on experience, Biblical training, and life preparation for Ministry. Learning happens in the context of a cohort learning environment. Each Resident is encompassed and supported by three individuals who will provide one-on-one mentoring and discipleship.
What areas of Ministry could I experience?
Kids Youth Young Adults
Men’s Women’s Teaching
Marriage Life Groups Care & Prayer
Discipleship Next Steps Creative (Worship) Arts
Recovery Events Heights Local & Global
Church Administration & Communication
What is the time commitment?
Each week, we will spend approximately 10 hours in coursework and Biblical training, primarily on Tuesdays. An additional 10 hours will be committed to experience within a ministry area. There is some outside reading and work that will need to be completed. You will also have some mentor/discipleship meetings to add to your calendar.
When is it?
We will begin with a Retreat in early August and wrap-up the year at the end of May.
Where is it?
Training Tuesdays will generally be held at the Prescott Campus. Ministry experience may be at all or some of these locations: the Prescott or Prescott Valley Campus, Church Offices or other locations depending on the focus area of ministry. This placement is at the discretion of the Residency Staff and Advisory Board, and is based on the best fit for the area of ministry and the Resident.
How do I start?
Complete and submit an application form (available in January for the 2020/2021 Cohort). Some questions will require some personal reflection. These questions help us to get to know you and evaluate your fit for the program – there may not necessarily be right answers. To expedite the process, be sure you have employment and reference information handy. You will also need to submit three (3) letters of recommendation as specified in the application.
Submit these via email to email@example.com or via mail at:
Residency at Heights
106 W Gurley Street,
Prescott AZ 86301
Once your application and recommendation letters are submitted, the materials will be reviewed. Then, it’s time for us to meet! You may be asked to participate in phone and/or in-person interviews with members of Heights Staff.
Our goal is to provide individualized attention to Residents, therefore, space is limited.
To be certain that you are given full consideration for the Fall start, all materials should be submitted and interviews completed by the middle of June.
Who can apply?
Those who are intentional about pursuing a life of ministry.
Can I pursue a degree?
We work in conjunction with Sioux Falls Seminary to allow your training and experience to count toward a Christian Leadership Degree. If you wish to have your residency program count toward a degree at Sioux Falls Seminary, you must be accepted and registered at the Seminary simultaneous to participating in the Residency at Heights. There is a cost associated with Sioux Falls Seminary but it is moderate compared to other institutions. For more information, see their website.
Will I be paid?
The 10 hours of experiential ministry time each week is unpaid. But unlike a volunteer, you will be working in conjunction with Staff to accomplish ministry objectives. You will attend Staff and team meetings, and work will enhance ministry while you learn the ins and outs of ministry.
Is there a cost?
There is no fee for Residency at Heights. We will cover the cost of books, materials and other coursework costs. Your investment is the time and energy that will be committed to learning, growth and development.
Can I work during the Residency?
Yes! We understand that you will need to cover living expenses. We ask that your job does not conflict with our Training Tuesdays and has a flexible schedule. Learning to balance responsibilities as well as prioritizing and managing time effectively is part of the growth of a leader. Please understand that ministry has a weekly rhythm that is not as flexible as a job may be. Please note that some ministries may require weekend hours.
What if I need housing?
We don’t want housing to be a reason for you not to be part of Residency at Heights. If you are having difficulty finding appropriate or affordable housing, please let us know and we can connect you to some contacts that can help! Any housing placements are at the discretion of the host and Resident to manage.
